Is anyone welcome at your church?

Absolutely, everyone is welcome! Whatever your religious background is, you are welcome to come and worship with us.

What is your worship service like?

Our goal is to make much of the finished work of Jesus Christ. We desire that every aspect of the service – from the prayers, to the singing, and the preaching – be saturated with the teaching of the Bible. There are no liturgies or special traditions you will feel awkward about. The worship leader generally instructs everyone on when to stand, sit, etc.

What type of music do you use?

We are much more concerned with the words of the songs that we sing than the style. We do seek to use tunes that are easy to sing and help communicate the truth of the text of the songs. We use a mixture of both traditional and modern hymns. We use a variety of different instruments within our worship service.

Where do I go when I come to a service?

Our main worship service is at 10:45 AM each Sunday. There are two parking lots available, each next to the other, just on different tiers. From the parking lot, simply enter the doors next to the sign that says “Worship Center.”

Is there child care available?

Yes, we have infant and toddler nursery for all Sunday services; the nursery is located adjacent to the Worship Center. There is a children’s church class that currently meets on the lower level for children age 2 through kindergarten that runs simultaneously with the adult service.

We also have a children’s church class available for children in grades 1-3, which meets during the sermon segment of the worship service. (An announcement is usually given when children are dismissed to leave for this children’s church class.) There are children’s classes available during the Wednesday evening service, as well.

Is there a dress code?

No, there is not a dress code. There is a diversity in how people dress for the service. Feel free to dress in a way that you are comfortable.

Do I need to bring anything?

There is no expectation for you to bring anything. If you own a Bible, it would be helpful in following along during the service. If you do not have one, we will gladly give you one, and we have pew Bibles readily available. (We do not have a preferred translation, but the pastor typically uses the NASB, and our weekly memory verse comes from the ESV.)

What are the core doctrines of your church?

We believe that God is holy and man is sinful. Man is lost and on his way to Hell because of his sin. God in His love sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth as the substitute for our sin. Jesus lived perfectly, died sacrificially, and resurrected miraculously providing salvation for us. The gift of salvation is received through repentant faith in the finished work of Christ alone. Are there Sunday School classes for all ages?

Yes, we have classes for everyone in your family! Infant and toddler nursery is provided, on the main level. Our Sunday School starts at 9:30 AM. Most of the classes are held downstairs. (You can get to that lower level by going down the outside steps. If you have a hard time maneuvering steps, you can also park in the small parking lot next to the east side of the building and go in that door.)

We offer classes specifically designed for children who are preschool, elementary school, and middle school ages. Teens who are in high school typically participate alongside adults. We currently offer several regular classes from which teens and adults can choose:

  • Two different ladies’ classes
  • One men’s class
  • A combined class for men and women

In addition to those classes, we have some special rotating classes that occasionally meet, including a class on Membership with Pastor Mark Warnshuis and a Foundations class with Pastor Jonathan Wagner.

With the exception to those special rotating classes, most of the classes work through a book of the Bible discussing both its content and potential applications.

What is a Sunday evening service like?

Our Sunday evening service begins at 6 PM.

Since there are times in which we do not have an evening service because of a holiday or another event on the church calendar, it would be best to contact the church office [insert link] for an updated schedule. (You can call the church office at 814-825-5342 or e-mail at office@gardenhieghts.org.) You can also click here [insert link] to see our monthly calendar.

When we do have Sunday evening services, they include unique challenges, sermons, or activities, rather than a repeat of the Sunday morning worship service.

The first Sunday of each month we do not have a service because we spend time gathering in our small groups, which we call FOCUS groups. (We currently have 5 FOCUS groups meeting, in various locations across Erie. If you would like to know more about being part of one of these groups you can contact [insert link] one of the pastors.)

What are the Wednesday evening services like?

Our Wednesday evening service starts at 7 PM. The focus of this service is Bible study and prayer. We meet downstairs in our fellowship hall (referred to as “Gardiner Hall”) for this service. (You can get there by going down the outside steps from the parking area. If you have a hard time maneuvering steps, you can also park in the small parking lot next to the east side of the building and go in that door.)

During the Wednesday evening service, there are children’s classes for those elementary school age and younger, as well as nursery, provided.

What if I have additional questions?

The pastors are available to answer any of your questions. You can contact any of them [insert link] via e-mail to schedule an appointment or catch us before or after any service.
